Lately my inbox is bombarded with emails addressing an apparently pressing matter: what to wear apple picking. I imagine multitudes of women, separated by distance and culture, yet all staring into their closets. Just wondering. "What SHOULD I wear apple picking?"
I live in an apple-tree-rich region, yet I have only been apple picking twice. Who are these women who apple pick often enough to buy new clothes for the event? Do they exist? Besides, can't you just wear jeans and a t-shirt? Yes, folks... I'm fairly certain that the Apple-Picking-clothing genera was recently invented by desperate email marketers.
What I want to know is, what do I wear all autumn long? What sweater or tunic is going to get me through the overcast days and drizzle? I want that cardigan that'll go with everything I own so I don't have to think about it, ever. I want clothing that my kids can snuggle up to on the cold winter days ahead. I'm thinking long term here.
This line of thought has made me rather touchy at work. I've been wandering around the office touching and trying on the fall line, and I have a few picks to share. They're guaranteed soft, versatile, and impeccably made. And you can throw in organic & fair trade (because ethics make all the difference).
I had no idea how much I loved this top until I tried it on. It's made from organic cotton velour in sumptuous black. It's the perfect top for snuggling because it's incredibly soft. Best of all, it's loose where you want it to be while still showing your shape. The 3/4 length sleeves (my fav) make this a top I'll wear year round.
You must love tunics... because they are the reason boots were put on this earth. This one is like your most comfortable knit sweater suddenly became longer and developed massive amounts of elegance and edge. The v-neckline is très élégant, but the metal stud details along the sides add rustic toughness in just the right way.
Cardigans are my favorite type of sweater. They hang nicely. They layer perfectly. Cardigans are your best friend when you're running out the door. Newly revamped for Fall & Winter '16, the Weekender Cardigan now has pockets and comes in a subtle gray/black stripe. This is my pick for what to wear with everything... And I will be. All those summer shirts can just go underneath.
